Spring Cleaning

Welcome to the first day of spring! Even though it may not look like it in some places around the country because of the layers of snow covering the ground, it truly is the first day of the vernal equinox.

We are all used to spring cleaning in the physical sense. We go through our closet and sort out things we won’t/can’t wear any more and (hopefully) donate them to the local church or thrift shop. We give our floors a good cleaning. We have the carpet cleaned. The tubs and showers are scrubbed to a gleaming shine. For as long as I can remember, it’s what happened in my childhood home and even though my mother my is no longer able to do it herself, my sisters carry on the tradition. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to stop with the place you live in.

Every once in a while, we have to clean out our inner circle. If there are relationships of any type that are toxic, hurtful or otherwise poisonous to your person, toss it out. It’s hard to be productive, happy and care-free when you’re always looking over your shoulder for the backstabber, the liar, or the cheat. We also have to clear out our own minds. Life is entirely too short to spend it in the throes depression, fear, bitterness, anger, self-pity or any other state outside of happiness. Don’t allow anyone to rule and control you, your circumstances or situations by living inside your head rent-free. Let go of the things that burden you. Easier said than done? While it may sound like it, it’s not. It can be done and actually MUST be done if you want to find joy and peace.

Spring is the time for more sunshine, flowers to bloom, and for fresh leaves to cover the barren trees. It can also be a time for more sunshine in your own life. Clean and clear out the things that represent a cold, hard winter in your life. Enjoy the time you have here!
